WAY

The ask

Since 2011, Widowed and Young provides an online space for people who need bereavement support. It removes the access barriers of a community by giving it to members in the comfort of their homes, at work, or even on public transport. The support is delivered through their mobile devices at times that suit them in a secure environment where they communicate through text-based conversation.

WAY is the only national charity in the UK for people aged 50 or under when their partner died. It’s a peer-to-peer support group operating with a network of volunteers who have been bereaved at a young age themselves, so they understand exactly what other members are going through.

WAY reached out to BinaryFold4 after receiving a round of funding in 2014. They wanted help building a web app in order to capture and serve a new and growing membership base in the UK, one that uses online services to access help.

We designed our approach around user-needs

In order to create their product and platform, we guided WAY through an iterative design and development process.

Our first engagement began with a Product Design Sprint. This helped the team identify exactly where more sophistication was needed in the original concept, and to prioritise their feature list.

Due to the timing as well as our qualitative goals, the project was only possible thanks to the use of modern methods such as design sprints and continuous user testing
