From May 2011 a new privacy law came into effect across the EU which requires that websites ask visitors for consent to use most web cookies. Web cookies are commonly used to allow personalisation of content, enable things like shopping baskets or to enhance visitor analytics information in the form of Google Analytics.
The deadline for implementing a method of consent is fast approaching on 26th May 2012. Like many other people we had hoped that the decision to enforce this rule would be overturned but as that is not looking likely we have been looking into possible solutions for our clients.
Next Steps
Cookie Consent Implementation Request
Our friends at Silktide have created a plugin for this purpose which we have chosen to use. If you would like us to implement this solution on your site please fill in the form below before Friday 18th May 2012 in order for us to be able to guarantee having the solution in place before the deadline.
In order to comply with the law, we will need to identify which cookies are being used, implement and configure the plugin and update your privacy policy to cover your specific cookie usage. We're using some automated tools to keep our costs low so the cost to make your site compliant will be just £130+VAT for existing clients. There will be no recurring cost.
